Why e-bikes weigh what they do
The weight isn’t an accident or a sign of cheap construction — it’s the motor, battery and reinforced frame doing their job. A hub or mid-drive motor alone typically adds several pounds over a standard bike hub, and the battery pack is usually the single heaviest component on the bike. Not every bike rack is rated to carry an e-bike’s weight, and this is the one place where guessing can actually damage your car or the bike.
