Black Friday E-Bike Deals: How to Tell a Real Discount From a Fake One

A buyer's guide to baseline prices, spec-for-spec value and the warranty and return terms that outlast the sale — before you click buy.

Every November, e-bike prices turn into a guessing game. A bike is “40% off,” a banner counts down the hours, and the number you are supposed to compare against is whatever the seller chose to put in strikethrough. This guide is about the one skill that makes a Black Friday purchase safe — telling a real price cut from a rearranged price tag — and about the parts of an e-bike purchase that matter long after the discount is forgotten. Black Friday is November 27 this year, which leaves time to do the homework first.

In this guide

The two numbers behind every sale price

A sale price is really two numbers: the price you pay and the “original” price it is compared with. Only the first one leaves your bank account. The second is a claim the seller makes, and it is the claim that produces the big percentage in the headline. Change the claim and the same bike at the same checkout price becomes a bigger or smaller bargain:

“Original” price on the tagPrice at checkoutAdvertised discount
$1,299$999about 23%
$1,499$999about 33%
$1,999$999about 50%

That table uses a hypothetical e-bike, but the arithmetic is the point: the bike in the cart is identical in all three rows. The only thing that changed is the number the seller chose to put in strikethrough. So the percentage tells you about the seller’s pricing story and nothing about the bike. Two questions do the real work: was that “original” price ever real, and is the final price fair for what the bike actually is?

Step 1: Find the baseline price before the sale starts

A genuine discount is measured against a price the bike really carried. The Federal Trade Commission’s pricing guides (16 CFR Part 233) describe the standard for advertising a reduction from a seller’s own former price: the former price should be the actual price at which the product was offered to the public on a regular basis, openly and in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period of time. A price invented only to make a markdown look large does not qualify. You cannot audit a seller’s records, but you can borrow the test:

None of this needs a spreadsheet. A few saved screenshots are enough to tell a real cut from a relabeled price.

Applying the same test to the Air Max

It is only fair to run the test on the bike we sell. The Mihogo Air Max is $999 on mihogousa.com at the time of writing, with $1,299 shown in strikethrough next to it. That $1,299 is the price the bike carried before August 24, 2026, when the price was lowered to $999, and $999 has been the regular price since. The $300 difference is about 23% off the old price, and it is a price cut that has stayed in place rather than a one-weekend event. This is the kind of paper trail worth asking every seller for, including us.

Step 2: Compare specs at the final price, not percentages

Once you trust the final price, ask what it buys. A percent-off figure describes pricing history; specs describe the bike. These are the numbers worth lining up side by side, with the Air Max figures from our review page as a reference point:

CompareWhy it changes the real valueAir Max
Battery capacity (Wh)Watt-hours are the like-for-like unit; “up to X miles” depends on rider weight, terrain, wind and throttle use921.6 Wh (two 460.8 Wh batteries)
Frame and ride-ready weightA light frame only helps if the whole bike is manageable, so ask for both numbersAbout 7.7 lb frame, about 62 lb complete
Sensor typeA torque sensor scales assist to how hard you pedal; a cadence sensor only detects that the pedals are turningBilateral torque sensor
BrakesStopping power matters more as assisted speed risesHydraulic disc brakes; assists up to 28 mph
What is in the boxA second battery needs a second charger, and included lights, rack and fenders change what the price really coversTwo chargers, integrated lights, rack and fenders

Our e-bike buying checklist walks through the same points in more depth, and the range guide explains why watt-hours beat mileage claims. For a head-to-head look at specific rivals, see the Air Max comparison pages.

One caution on bundles: a package that adds extras to make the deal look bigger is only a saving if you would have bought every item anyway. Judge the bike on its own price first, then decide whether the extras are worth having.

Step 3: Read the terms that outlast the sale

A discount is a one-time event. The warranty, the return window and the seller’s reachability last for years, or fail to. Sale periods are when buyers skim these pages the least, so they deserve the most attention. Here is what the Air Max carries as published, as a model of the details to ask any seller for.

Warranty: which parts, how long, and whose

Mihogo USA’s warranty covers manufacturing defects in six core components — frame, motor, battery, controller, LCD display and charger — for 12 months from the date of delivery. It applies to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable, and it does not cover wear items such as tires, tubes, brake pads and chains, or damage from accidents, misuse or water exposure. It also excludes bikes bought from unauthorized sellers. That last line matters on sale days: a marketplace listing that undercuts every price you have seen may not carry the coverage you assume, with any brand. Ask whether the warranty applies to the exact seller you are about to pay.

Returns: the conditions, not just the number of days

The return policy allows a request within 14 days of delivery for a bike that is unused and in original condition, with an odometer reading under 10 miles and all packaging and accessories included. For a change-of-mind return, the customer pays return shipping — either a prepaid label from Mihogo USA at up to $300 or a carrier of the buyer’s own choosing. That is a real cost to weigh against a sale price, so read it before the sale rather than after. Also ask whether holiday purchases follow the same return policy as the rest of the year.

Shipping and timing

Air Max shipping is free to the continental U.S. except California and New York; Mihogo USA does not ship to those two states. Processing takes 1 to 2 business days and transit typically 2 to 7 business days by FedEx or UPS, and the published timeframes are estimates that vary with carrier volume and weather. Peak shopping weeks tend to be busier for carriers, which is worth remembering if the bike is a gift.

Who stands behind the sale

The cheapest listing is the most expensive one if nobody answers after you pay. Mihogo USA is operated by Snapcycle Inc., the brand’s authorized U.S. distributor, and the same U.S. team handles checkout, shipping and warranty claims. We cover why that matters and how to vet any seller in a separate guide.

Red flags that matter more than the percentage

Should you wait for Black Friday at all?

Waiting is a trade, not a free option. The possible upside is a lower price. The certain cost is every week you spend without the bike. Three situations tip the balance:

As for the Air Max, nobody can honestly promise what a seller’s price will be on a given day, and we will not guess. At the time of writing it is $999, and the price on the product page the day you order is the price you pay.

A short checklist before you click buy

  1. I know what this bike cost before the sale, and I have a saved screenshot or note to show it.
  2. I compared the final price with bikes that have a similar battery capacity, motor and ride-ready weight.
  3. The warranty names the covered parts, the length and the company that handles claims.
  4. I read the return conditions and know who pays for return shipping.
  5. I checked the total at the last checkout step, including shipping and tax.
  6. If it is a gift, I checked the delivery timeframe against the date I need it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Black Friday a good time to buy an e-bike?

It can be, but only if the sale price is lower than the price the same bike held steadily before the sale. Note the price now, check it again on the day, and compare specs rather than percentages. If you need the bike this season, the weeks you would ride it also count against waiting.

How can I tell if an e-bike's “original price” is real?

Ask whether the bike was actually offered at that price, openly and for a reasonable stretch of time, before the sale. The Federal Trade Commission's pricing guides (16 CFR Part 233) set that standard for former-price comparisons. In practice: record the price weeks ahead, look for an archived copy of the product page, and compare against other sellers' prices for bikes with a similar battery, motor and weight.

What matters more than the discount percentage on an e-bike?

The final price including shipping and tax, the specs you get for it (battery watt-hours, ride-ready weight, sensor type, brakes), a warranty that names the parts it covers, a return window you can actually use, and a seller you can reach after the sale.

Is the struck-through price on the Mihogo Air Max a sale?

At the time of writing the Air Max is $999. The $1,299 shown struck through is the price the bike carried before August 24, 2026, when the price was lowered; $999 is the regular price now. Check the product page for the current price on the day you order.

Can I get an e-bike delivered before the holidays?

Delivery times are estimates. Mihogo USA orders are processed in 1 to 2 business days and transit is typically 2 to 7 business days by FedEx or UPS, and actual dates vary with carrier volume and weather. Shipping is free to the continental U.S. except California and New York; Mihogo USA does not ship to California or New York.
